Hair loss can be a natural part of the ageing process, and most of the time, it’s nothing to worry about. We can even lose up to 100 hairs on our bodies every day, without even noticing. But you could prolong the life of your locks by regularly massaging your scalp, it’s been revealed.

One of the easiest ways to stimulate hair growth is to massage the top of your head, Japanese scientists have claimed.

Men that used a head massager for just four minutes per day could increase the volume of their hair within six months, they said.

The massage is believed to increase blood flow to the scalp, which subsequently encourages the growth of new hairs.

But, you don’t need to go out and buy a head scratcher to feel the benefits.

Simply using the ball of your own forefingers would have a similar impact, according to medical website Medical News Today.

“Hair growth depends on several factors, including a person’s genetic history,” it said.

“However, there are some home remedies that may help.

“Whether a person is trying to prevent hair loss or encourage more growth, knowing some tips on diet and how to treat the hair can help them achieve their goal.

“People can use the pads of their fingertips to massage the scalp in gentle circles.

“Devices to massage the scalp are also available in drug stores and online.”

Many people find that they already massage their head without realising it; while shampooing their hair in the shower.

It’s a slow process to grow your hair by massaging, but scientists claim it’s very effective.

But, if that doesn’t sound like your type of thing, you could also try using onion juice instead.

Applying onion juice directly to your scalp has been claimed to prevent hair loss.

The juice contains sulphur, which may play a role in hair regrowth.

Onions also contain antioxidants known as flavonoids, which protect the body from damaging free radicals. Free radicals are believed to contribute to the ageing process, and could lead to hair thinning, or even loss of hair entirely.

Losing your hair isn’t necessarily something to be worried about.

You should speak to a doctor if you suddenly start losing your hair, or if you develop bald patches.
