YouTube’s Buff Dudes, a.k.a. bodybuilding brothers Brandon and Hudson White, take on all kinds of workout challenges in their videos, including putting themselves through rigorous military fitness tests and recreating the intense training montages from classic action movies. Their latest challenge is a bit more of a throwback, and sees them trying out some of the most popular exercises of the 1960s in an old-school “gym class” inspired by the decade and coached by their dad, Duke, based on the workout he actually did back when he was in high school.

The first exercise is the “fish out of water flop,” which they perform for 20 reps. “That was tough,” says Brandon. “That’s a lot of core activation, you’ve got to hold yourself up, a little bit in the hip flexors, a little bit in the triceps… Definitely harder than it looks.”

Next up is some cardio-heavy circuit training, consisting of running in place, burpees, and jumping jacks. Given that cardio is where the brothers have struggled in their previous challenges, it’s perhaps unsurprising that they are both left gasping for air by the end of this round. As Hudson puts it: “I’m not going to be sarcastic until I get my breath back.”

The third event is the flexed arm hold on the pullup bar, which they must sustain for a full 60 seconds. They both finish this round successfully, each earning an A from Duke. The fourth round is a set of grueling inverted bicycles, and the fifth involves cooperation as they must each perform partner handstand holds. “You try holding up a 250-pound man,” says Hudson.
