Cow’s milk has some serious competition, especially from the oat drink. Is vegan, climate – and animal-friendly, and lactose-free.
Among the dairy alternatives, oat is the most popular variant. And also the Foundation test is expressed in the current issue of the magazine “Test” (5/2020) is hardly a criticism of the products.
Oat milk majority of a rating with “Good”
18 different brands, 14 of the sections with the grade “Good”, of which 11 are Organic. From the rest of the Drinks, none was worse than “satisfactory”.
In a candidate, however, was to find a strong Nickel exposure. Nickel is a suspected reproductive to be harmful.
The oat based is dominant in each Drink, but nevertheless, all tested products carry a individual taste. The Sweet drinks are varied in all the Oats, so that some are much sweeter than others.
But also in the aftertaste, the tested oat drinks differed. Some had a röstige flavor note, while you may tasted it in other a slight vanilla taste.
None of the products received when you taste a lower rating than satisfactory.
With the grade “very good” were able to convince only three of the oat drinks. Two of the taste winner belonging to the brand Oatly: The oats Barista Edition oat Calcium. However, Kölln Smelk was able to convince with the “oatmeal love classical music”.
Oat milk: Mostly satisfactory ingredients
The taste, however, is not the only criterion for the Test, the composition of the oat drinks played an important role. None of the tested products was able to convince with the grade “very good”.
The best “oats Barista Edition” of Oatly with the Note section here, too “good”. A ‘satisfactory’ got the unsweetened oats drink from Alnatura, as well as the own brands dmBio and Rossmann enerBIO.
Pollutants in the oat milk?
Whether Nickel, Aluminium or lead – food should not contain any pollutants that could harm the body. Stiftung Warentest has tested the oat drinks to various pollutants.
Best performed in this category of “oatmeal love classical music” from Kölln Smelk and “oat Drink unsweetened” from Alnatura.
Also own brands, such as the “oat Drink natural no added sugar” of Rossmann or the “oat drink classic” EDEKA Bio, were able to convince with the grade “very good“.
A product fell, with the testers, however: The “Take it veggie organic oat drink” of the country of purchase – as the only oat drink, he received only the grade of “sufficient”.
Oat drinks are usually very sweet, as in the production of a specific enzyme that converts the starch in the oats into sugars.
Average of all tested oat drinks contain 4.5 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters. Only a product can be declared to be sugar-free: “oats, Unsweetened mild taste, without the sugar” from Alpro.
These oat drinks can foam up
Among the tested oat drinks three products promoted specifically with your Schäumbarkeit, but only two Drinks were able to keep this promise actually.
In the Test, a creamy foam is created only when the “Barista Edition” of Oatly and “oat drink without Calcium” from Alnatura.
The “oat drink with Calcium” of Alnatura was, however, hardly foaming, in spite of the Declaration on the packaging.
The Tests showed, however, that the Schäumbarkeit need not necessarily be marked on the product: a Lot of oat drinks could still be frothing, even without a corresponding note to the manufacturer.
