Dax Shepard has clearly been spending some serious time in the gym. The 46-year-old actor, comic and podcaster appears to have undergone a muscle transformation, and showed off his seriously jacked biceps in a gym photo on Instagram. He posted it on Father’s Day, but there are no dad bods in sight.

“Father’s Day starting with a #dadlift, then on to F1 and too much food,” he wrote. “Love you fellow dads, @erickrich @charcurtis @hiryanhansen. Thanks for making parenthood so much fun.”

While he has always been in good shape, Shepard has taken on a renewed dedication to his own health over the last nine months; he revealed in September 2020 that he had become dependent on Vicodin after having surgery following an accident. He had previously been sober for 16 years, and his relapse actually fell on the 16th anniversary of his sobriety, making the experience even more painful.

“I was high at the meeting having people tell me they admire my sobriety,” he said in an episode of his podcast Armchair Expert. “It was the worst thing in the world.”

Since then, Shepard has spoken about how important his relationship with his wife, actress Kristen Bell, has been in helping him through this difficult time.

“I can’t imagine having to admit that to other people and feeling as safe as I did that you guys wouldn’t hate me,” he told her on the podcast in December. “I hated me at that point and so, to be able to tell you guys and feel unconditionally loved and that I would be accepted was really special … it saved my life.”

“My fears were the opposite of what the result was,” he added. “[I was] struggling with some fraudulent feelings of receiving love based on a f—k up. But at any rate, I am really, really grateful and there’s so many beautiful, nice people.”
