It’s no secret that Kelly Ripa’s abs are straight fire, but the Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host just shared a sneak peek on Instagram on how she gets that stomach of steel.
Kelly didn’t reveal much, but she shared a pic in her Instagram Story that’ll make your jaw drop. In it, Kelly is sprawled out on an exercise block on her back with her legs at 90 degrees. She’s wearing a pink mask, crop top, and yoga shorts, accessorized with a total six-pack. “Work in progress,” she captioned the shot, before tagging her trainer, Anna Kaiser.
OK, but wow. Kelly shared last week that she started working out with Kaiser again in person for the first time in 14 months, but you’d never know it. Kelly, who is 50, you guys!!!, dropped a pic then of herself and Kaiser mid-workout in black pants and knotted white tees, also rocking killer abs.
Kelly has made it clear that she loves dance-based workouts, and she usually does them with Kaiser four to five days a week, for 60- to 90-minute sessions, Kaiser previously told Women’s Health. When these two get together, it’s dance party magic.
“I love to dance, and she loves to dance,” Kaiser said. That’s why they end up doing dance cardio-focused movements, along with functional training and circuit training.
Kelly is also really, really dedicated to her fitness. (I mean, hello, it shows.) “She’s stayed consistent, she’s been committed, it’s something that she does for her,” Kaiser says. “You need to find something that you love to do, and that will help you show up…that thing that makes you feel really jazzed, and makes you feel great after, too.”
As for those abs, Kaiser focuses on Kelly’s entire core to get them that jacked. “Every exercise we do works your full core—the butt, the abs, and the back—at the same time,” she said. “If you’re training functionally, you’re hitting those muscles from all planes of motion.”
Kelly eats really well, too. She follows an alkaline diet, which involves only eating foods that are low in acid (aka alkaline), like fresh vegetables, healthy fats, whole grains, and low-sugar fruits. “It’s just the way she’s been eating for years and she feels really good, so she’s not going to stop,” her nutritionist Daryl Gioffre previously told Women’s Health.
She’s also big into plant-based foods. “Once in a while she will have an animal protein, like a wild-caught fish, but it’s always the best quality,” Gioffre says. She also doesn’t drink.
