A coalition of environmental assistance, Breweries, and of the trade Union nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) has called on the Federal environment Minister, Svenja Schulze (SPD), not to punish companies that intentionally, in the legal multi-rate.
As a sanction measure, a levy of 20 cents would have to be introduced in addition to the Deposit on non-refillable plastic bottles and beverage cans, said in a joint message from Wednesday.
No Transition from A – to reusable
Since 1. January 2019, the packaging act, which says among other things, a so-called multi-rate of 70 per cent in Germany.
A clear reversal of the trend from disposable to reusable is not so far occurred, writes the Alliance of German environmental aid, Association of Private Breweries of Germany and the NGG.
The Recycling experts of the environment, Thomas Fischer, said that the share of returnable bottles to all the containers for drinks spent, according to estimates from the industry, currently at about 42 percent.
The multi-rate is formulated in the law only as a target, below which, not, with penalties for individual retailers and Bottlers is occupied.
The multi-rate must be such that it must be implemented by each retailer and bottler necessarily in the fact, demanded to the Alliance.
Canned beverages to take
Especially companies such as Aldi, Lidl, Coca-Cola and Nestle Waters boycotted the statutory multi-rate.
The discounters Aldi and Lidl have taken in the past year, increasingly drinks cans in their range, and thus, the market share of canned drinks increases, said Fischer. “And that is why you have to see to it that you control in a timely manner”.
