Type-2 diabetes affects millions of people in the UK as many symptoms can go unnoticed.
Important signs to look out for include unexplained weight loss, frequent urination and itching around the genitals.
Another crucial symptom includes vision as the condition affects blood vessels in the retina that lines the back of the eye.
This is also because having high blood sugar, which happens with type-2 diabetes patients, is linked to damage in a person’s vision.
“All forms of diabetic eye disease have the potential to cause severe vision loss and blindness”
The National Eye Institute
The National Eye Institute said: “Diabetic eye disease comprises a group of eye conditions that affect people with diabetes.
“These conditions include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, cataract, and glaucoma.
“All forms of diabetic eye disease have the potential to cause severe vision loss and blindness.
“Diabetic retinopathy involves changes to retinal blood vessels that can cause them to bleed or leak fluid, distorting vision.”
