Professional climber Magnus Midtbø is always looking for a training challenge. He recently taught powerlifter Stefi Cohen his climbing tricks, and practiced bouldering with bodybuilder and acrobat Jujimufu. But he has a real penchant for attempting to break world records. He previously attempted to set an unofficial world record for weighted pullups alongside Jujimufu, which he failed to accomplish.

Recently, Midtbø set his sights a little lower for some “doable” Guinness World Records in his latest YouTube video. He was joined by soccer freestyler Tobias Bec, who already holds three official Guinness World Records. Importantly, none of the records the guys attempted could actually count—for that to happen, an official judge would have to be on the scene to serve as a witness and ensure proper form and protocols were followed.

His first challenge is to attempt to break the record for most pullups with a burpee in 1 minute. The current record is 22.

“It’s impossible to beat it with perfect form, so you just need to copy the form of the record holder. I’ve never tried it… I’m not good at burpees!” says Midtbø.

After 1 minute, he only knocks out 19 reps.

“I’m going to try to break it in a future video,” he says.

Next, he attempts the record for chinups with a clap between each rep, with the current record being 30 reps.

“That was 33!” he says after doing reps for 1 minute. “You might have to cancel some for bad form. I definitely started out too hard. I think if I was in a little bit better shape, I could crush this record.”

Still, he unofficially broke the previous mark by three reps.

For his last record attempt, he goes for “the most painful one by far.” It’s a hanging L-sit (pike), and the current record is held by a female at 1:29.

“I’m going to aim for 1:31,” he laughs.

He starts, and quickly starts shaking. He makes it to 1:13 before falling.

“If I actually trained for this, I think I can beat it,” he says. “You have to really want it. But I think it’s doable.”
