The last year has seen our recreation and leisure options severely limited due to pandemic-related public health restrictions. And so when it comes to inspiration for a recent video, YouTuber President Chay and his brother Colby decide it’s a good idea to spend a whole day walking a marathon. Inside a Walmart. That’s right; they set out at 6 a.m., with the goal of walking 26.2 miles in the aisles of their local store.

Their aim is to complete all 26.2 miles in a maximum time of 11 hours, and so they try their best to maintain a pace of around 2.5 to 3 miles per hour, which would see them finishing the marathon in less than 9 hours. “Our first mile was way too slow at 28 minutes,” Chay explains, “so we had to use this time to bump up our average speed to 2.5 miles per hour… the reality of what we’re doing is really starting to sink in.”

After 6 hours of walking, each take it in turns to stop for a lunch break, and this is where the physical fatigue of the morning catches up to both of them. “My knees are burnt toast,” says Colby, while Chay finds himself unable to fully extend his right leg.

The challenge gets even more difficult as the day progresses, the store gets busier, and the soreness and tedium of doing non-stop laps of the store really begins to affect the brothers’ morale. “We don’t really train for long-distance stuff at all, so this is different, and we’re just falling apart,” says Chay. “Also, our pace is going down because traffic is really high right now.”

After muscle cramps, joint pain and several popped blisters, they finally reach the finish line in 10 hours, 49 minutes. “We were beaten down, messed up, and in pain,” says Chay, “but we did it!”
