The first behind-the-scenes photo of John Cena has just emerged from the set of The Suicide Squad, after he completed a workout with his co-star Joel Kinnaman. The wrestler-turned-actor was added to the cast of the DC sequel earlier this year, and is reportedly already training like a badass, with Kinnaman claiming that he is able to bench superhero levels of weights in a new Instagram post.
“Lunch break on #TheSuicideSquad,” he wrote in the caption. “When I saw @johncena bench 4000 lbs I thought to myself Damn.. but you know he probably can’t move that well.. I’m smooth and flexible.. Then he got up started stretching and did the splits.”
4,000 pounds might be a bit of an exaggeration, but Cena’s strength isn’t to be underestimated — the guy can lift 500 pounds. But while Kinnaman might have been playing at feeling intimidated, the truth is cast of The Suicide Squad are having a blast on set. “It’s so funny,” Kinnaman recently Variety. “I feel like I’m shooting my first comedy, there are a lot of really funny people there.”
Kinnaman is reprising his role of Rick Flag in The Suicide Squad, but Cena isn’t the only newcomer: Idris Elba will replace Will Smith in the role of Deadshot. In addition to joining the cast of The Suicide Squad, Cena is also entering an even huger franchise: he’s landed an undisclosed role in Fast & Furious 9.
