Running jackets can be a real pain. Some ride up (hello, I’d prefer not to show my belly unless I’m wearing a crop top, TYVM). Others trap sweat, leaving you feeling like you’re jogging in a damn trash bag.

A solid running jacket should feel comfortable when you move and lightweight enough that it won’t turn your torso into a sweat lodge. It should keep wind and dampness out (duh), and you’ll want to look for one that’s a little loose around the shoulders so you can actually pump your arms.

These are the best running jackets if you want to look good (obvi), stay warm (but not too warm) and actually keep the water out of your bra during rain-soaked fall runs.

Rave review: “Bought this to wear over my clothes for the Boston Marathon. Thank goodness I had this! It kept me dry. I have Raynaud’s syndrome which basically means I get cold and stay cold very easily. The conditions at this past Boston were the worst possible for someone with Raynaud’s. I tested the jacket out ahead of time by putting it on and getting in the shower. I stayed dry. And it most likely prevented me from getting hypothermia on Marathon Monday. And it folds up on to a little pouch with a carry strap that you can band around your hand if you are out and it stops raining.”

Rave review: “I wanted nothing more than to get the Define Jacket because I was looking for an attractive running jacket. Then I saw this instead and it was perfect because it had enough room at the back that it didn’t show the bulges around my sports bra along the back. However, it’s still fitted enough in the front that you can run in it. In fact, I went for a run in it yesterday and it breathed very well, while keeping the mosquitoes from getting to me. Very happy with this purchase.”

Rave review: “Good for exercise in cooler weather. Super-soft and perfect light layer for exercise. I’ve worn it a few times hiking in cooler weather. The thumbholes are an added bonus. I can see this getting lots of wear in cooler fall weather when I’m out running or riding my bike.”

Target C9 Champion Track Jacket

Rave review: “Love this jacket! I have long arms and it’s so hard to find jackets long enough in the sleeves that aren’t too big everywhere else. The mesh details on the shoulders and back made it different from your typical black zip up.”
