Patrick Schwarzenegger went into 2021 with the goal of gaining 25 pounds of muscle in order to prepare for his next role. In order to do so, the actor overhauled his nutrition, and committed to working out at 5 a.m. every day.
“I’m just trying to get more calories, more protein, and more complex carbs in my system,” he told Men’s Health earlier this year. “I’m also trying to eat something before my workouts to have enough energy to get through the workout. Before, it was always an empty stomach and trying to use the fasting to burn off fat.”
To keep himself motivated and accountable in his daily workouts, Schwarzenegger began the “5am challenge”, recruiting more than 400 people on Instagram to join him in chasing their own fitness goals. And in an Instagram post yesterday, he revealed the results of the last 50 days of hard work.
“Getting in the best shape of my life. Both physically & mentally,” he wrote, adding that he has put on 22 pounds of muscle and lost 5 percent body fat. He went on to say that 413 people completed the challenge with him, who reported a variety of results from up to 30 pounds in weight loss, to increased energy, to better nutrition and sleeping habits.
“I love creating goals/challenges because it gives your brain a literal GPS to a destination your seeking,” Schwarzenegger continued. “The biggest mistake we make is thinking it will come overnight. Everything takes time. That’s why I made the challenge 50 days so people wouldn’t end after the first week.”
