“Baby Shark”-mania has gone through all kinds of incarnations and memes since the catchy kids song was first popularized in 2016—and now it could be your new favorite workout jam. Seriously.
In a new Athlean-X video, trainer Jesse explains that after he lost a bet, he was condemned to doing the “Baby Shark” ab workout for a whole month, and it actually worked, leaving him with visibly shredded six-pack abs—or, as he insisted, an “eight-pack”.

As Athlean-X’s mastermind Jeff Cavaliere explains, there are certainly some benefits to the “Baby Shark” workout. Training your abs every day like this is guaranteed to yield results. This workout also involves a lot of tension in your core: even during rest periods, you’re still in a half-v sitting position.
It also focuses on time as a variable, rather than reps, and that time can be repeated or extended as you progress. “You just keep going, you get it more intense, and make it more difficult for yourself, because you’re under that constant tension, going for a longer time,” says Jesse.
Finally, Jeff and Jesse both agree that the musical element of the challenge makes training easier, as it serves as a distraction… although if you want to sub in a different song choice, nobody would blame you.
