“As a teen mom with nothing more than a GED, I was immensely proud of where I was in my career,”  Johana tells us. “But then something changed. I would stay in bed all day and cry over the littlest thing. I felt hopeless and guilty for being so depressed, which made me even more depressed. I felt like I was in a deep hole screaming for help with no sound coming out. I ended up cutting my hair super short so I wouldn’t have to put any effort into getting ready. I had no energy or no desire to do anything.”

After missing work too many times, Johana eventually lost her job and was officially diagnosed with depression over a year later. Without insurance, the bupropion XL her doctor prescribed would’ve cost her $198 for a 90-day supply. Johana says, “When I saw the price, I almost died! It was definitely a tough pill to swallow.” But then she remembered GoodRx from a commercial and decided to try it. She was relieved to find she could save 60% on her prescription with a GoodRx coupon.

Since getting her diagnosis earlier this year, things have been looking up for Johana. For starters, she’s now a full-time student and a newlywed! Through her husband’s employer, she also has health insurance again. She and her husband enjoy many of the same activities, and get the occasional adrenaline rush together by skydiving and whitewater rafting. And of course, she can always rely on her son to bring a smile to her face.

Johana thinks the Hispanic community can benefit a lot from GoodRx. She says, “I know a large part of my community doesn’t have healthcare and would see this as a blessing.”
