Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, already one of our swolest screen stars, has spent the last couple of months training harder than ever before in preparation for his lead role in DC’s Black Adam. A long time in the making, the movie is a passion project for Johnson; he has spoken a number of times about how his Black Adam training is helping him get into character, and how important it is for him to imbue the comic book antihero with the right kind of larger-than-life physicality.

In an Instagram post uploaded yesterday, Johnson confirmed that filming on the movie officially kicks off this week; and the accompanying picture, which shows off his truly massive quads, proves that his exhausting recent routine has definitely paid off. “It’s always the work we quietly put in when no one is watching that changes the game,” he wrote. “Grateful for the grind.”

Johnson’s Black Adam workouts consist of giant sets which target the muscles with maximum efficiency (and are, in the man’s own words, a “real bitch”), and his leg day routine is no different. After a 30-minute warmup, he launches into multiple rounds of leg extensions/leg curls, a compound pressing movement, chain lunges, shark pit squats, and barbell squats.

“Training legs requires ALL YA GOT!” He said in a leg day post. “It’s a lot of hard work (especially balancing everything else life throws our way) but I really enjoy the challenge of new goals. New things to build. Pushing myself.”
