Jamie’s claims are backed by a 2014 study published in the journal of Physiology and Behaviour.
Scientists carried out tests on 114 men – some of which sampled hot sauce.
They also noted down which participants ate spicy meals on a regular basis.
Research showed that those who ate chilli-filled food saw an increase in their testosterone levels.
As the hormone is important for regulating libido, this is beneficial.
The paper concludes: “This study suggests that behavioural preference for spicy food among men is related to endogenous testosterone levels.”
Research is still in its infancy, so it’s advisable to consult a doctor you’re concerned about low libido.
If tweaking your diet isn’t enough to raise your sex drive, your local GP may prescribe medical treatment.
Anti-depressants, hormonal contraception and medication for high bp are among the options that may be offered.
Alternatively, consultation with a psychosexual therapist may be advised.
