Pat McGrath Labs and The Metropolitan Museum of Art are back with a second drop.
After an initial collaboration that debuted after the Met Gala in May, The Met Store is unveiling a second limited-edition line with Pat McGrath Labs. Spanning both cosmetics and apparel, The Adorned Collection is inspired by jewelry that will be featured in an upcoming exhibition called "Jewelry: The Body Transformed," opening at The Met on Nov. 12.
“The exclusive Pat McGrath Labs x The Met The Adorned collection is absolutely legendary and I am thrilled to explore the intersection of adornment and artistry,” says McGrath. “The partnership is a true testament that there are no limits when it comes to creativity and collaboration.”
Pat McGrath Labs is the first beauty brand to be sold at The Met. In July, the label received a $60 million minority investment from Eurazeo Brands. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but industry sources estimated that the firm took a 5 to 8 percent stake in the business at a valuation of more than $1 billion. Pat McGrath Labs previously received $88 million in external funding in 2016. Industry sources said the business is expected to do more than $60 million in retail sales for 2018.
"Jewelry: The Body Transformed" is expected to feature nearly 230 items, including headdresses, ear ornaments, brooches, belts, necklaces, rings, sculptures, paintings, prints and photographs from a range of time periods. Eight of these items — including a Baroque pearl and enamel pendant, a parure of 19th-century cameos, an Edo period Japanese lacquer comb, an amethyst comb and a 13th-century nose ornament — will be featured in the graphic punk collages on the packaging for the Pat McGrath Labs' Adorned Collection.
The line will consist of a special edition of the Mothership V: Bronze Seduction Eyeshadow Palette — currently sold out with a waitlist of "thousands," according to a rep for the brand — as well as Lust: Gloss in Aliengelic, which debuted during the first Met collaboration, and Blitz Gold. Prices range from $38 to $125.
As with the first Pat McGrath Labs x The Met line, The Adorned Collection will also include limited-edition T-shirts in unisex sizing. Prices range from $75 for a short-sleeve option to $95 for a long-sleeve one. Apparel in the original Pat McGrath Labs x The Met collection ranged in price from $62 to $82.
The Adorned Collection will be sold at the museum's store and online at store.metmuseum.org and patmcgrath.com starting today.
